Black Student Union at Behrend
About
The BSU, or the Black Student Union, comprises of the black and Africans clubs formerly known as the Organization of African and Caribbean Students and the Association of Black Collegians. Students among campus had explained interest of having a strong group (BSU) at Behrend. This led to the unanimous decision to create a bigger, more united club in order to extend the outreach of our growing community. Pushing the name of BSU around will grow a community outside of Behrend and spread the name of Penn State around many high schools and colleges and bringing more ethnic students to Penn State and definitely Behrend campus. This will provide a relatable space on campus, enhance the academics of student of color on campus, and expand connections. With a BSU, students of color will feel comfortable to present their unique ideas, vote, listen, learn, plan, grow, all while having a good time. This club also focuses on combatting many challenges potentially faced by minority groups within the school peacefully and effectively. This would also influence the retention rate of international and students of color, and show the Erie community Behrend is more than a safety school with a hallowed name, but a dream school, to meet your friends, spouse, and experiences to better impact your life.
